WORK is set to start on a $3 million clubhouse for the Silver Jubilee Sports Facility at Spring Mountain with Ipswich City Council awarding the contract for construction.
The project is funded under a $1.9 million allocation from Phase 4 of the Albanese Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program and additional funding from Ipswich City Council.
The clubhouse will be situated at the centre of the sports grounds off Russell Luhrs Way and is due for completion mid-2025.
It is planned to feature a clubroom, kitchen and food preparation area, change rooms, referee rooms, medical room, storerooms and amenities, a new shed, pathways and extended parking areas.
Ipswich City Council received more than $3.67 million through Phase 4 of the LRCI program for local priority projects including the clubhouse, road rehabilitation works, urban greening projects from Brassall to Goodna and a new solar system for Nicholas Street Library.
Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the Albanese Government’s LRCI program was one of a suite of initiatives delivering significant funding increases to support local councils progress their priority projects.
“This clubhouse and projects throughout the city awarded under the latest funding round of the LRCI program are good examples of local councillors advocating for their community and working closely with the Federal Government to achieve great outcomes,” Mr Neumann said.
“When we work together, we get better outcomes for our communities – which is why the Albanese Labor Government has increased the funding available to local councils to support the continued delivery of their local priority projects.
“The growing community at Spring Mountain is part of the rapid growth we are seeing throughout the western corridor and local sports organisations like those at Silver Jubilee Sports Facility are an important part of the fabric of an emerging community.
“I will continue to work with our local community to advocate for projects that will support local jobs, boost liveability, and stimulate the economy throughout the region.”
Ipswich City Council’s Finance and Governance Committee Chairman and Division 2 Councillor Paul Tully said the new clubhouse and additional infrastructure would be used by a range of sporting clubs and codes.
“The Silver Jubilee facility was opened in April 2023 with sports fields, netball and basketball courts in the heart of Greater Springfield,” Cr Tully.
“This $3 million clubhouse is a great addition to the existing facility for residents and sportspeople in Ipswich‘s eastern suburbs.”
Division 2 Councillor Nicole Jonic thanked the Commonwealth Government and Mr Neumann for supporting the Council’s plans to deliver community infrastructure for the growing area.
“This facility will be supported by a number of sports groups and the local community. Cr Tully and I have been advocating for this project and working with Shayne Neumann to deliver this asset and it is great to see it becoming a reality.”
