THE HON SHAYNE NEUMANN MP, FEDERAL MEMBER FOR BLAIR
A funding injection from the Federal Government will see the Queensland Government build another 600 homes across the state, including in the Ipswich and West Moreton region.
As part of the Albanese Government’s $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator, Queensland has received more than $398 million from the Commonwealth to deliver the additional homes.
This will support the roll-out of 23 homes in Ipswich, and five homes across the surrounding areas of the Somerset Region, Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim.
It adds to the Palaszczuk Government’s existing $5 billion investment in social and affordable housing – the largest concentrated investment in the state’s history – which will help to deliver 13,500 homes, including a number of social housing projects underway in Ipswich.
The Social Housing Accelerator will increase Australia’s housing supply by creating thousands of social homes across Australia – with all funding to be committed by states and territories within two years.
Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the Federal and State Labor governments were working together to deliver more social housing for the Ipswich region and surrounds.
“Everyone deserves the security of a roof over their head and our $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator is real dollars, driving real change and building more homes locally and across the nation.
“The Albanese Labor Government’s investment will build close to 30 new social homes in Ipswich, the Somerset Region, Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim, while we continue to work with the Palaszczuk Government to deliver even more homes.
“We have an ambitious housing agenda, which includes the delivery of 30,000 social and affordable homes through our $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund.
“We know Australia’s housing challenges are serious, which is why we’re taking immediate action with our $2 billion Social Housing Accelerator, including $398 million for Queensland.
“This funding will mean more locals have a safe and affordable place to call home, and it will a real difference here in my electorate of Blair and right across Queensland.
“It’s fantastic that the Queensland Government is rolling out a number of new social housing projects in Ipswich, in places like Goodna, Booval, North Ipswich and Redbank Plains, and our Federal funding injection will mean more can now be built.
“I look forward to working with my Federal and State colleagues to get on with the job of delivering more social and affordable housing for our region.”
