As state school students in Ipswich and the Somerset Region begin the 2018 school year, Member for Blair Shayne Neumann MP has revealed they will be losing $19 million in funding in 2018 and 2019 under Turnbull.
As well as taking $17 billion from schools, the Turnbull Government is cutting around $3 billion from TAFE and vocational education, and more than $2 billion from universities.
“Turnbull’s cuts to schools will see our children miss out on extra help with maths, science, and computer skills – the skills they’ll need for a lifetime of success.”
“Turnbull’s cuts to TAFE and vocational education mean Australians will find it harder to prepare for the high-tech, high-skilled jobs of the future.”
“Turnbull’s cuts to higher education could see up to 10,000 students miss out on a uni place, and set-back important discoveries and research breakthroughs.”
Mr Neumann said local schools, TAFE colleges and universities in Ipswich and the Somerset Region need more funding, not less.
For QLD the cuts will be equivalent to almost 3 teachers cut from every school. Nationally, over 80% of the government’s cuts will fall on public schools.
“Turnbull has proved once again how out-of-touch his Government is by taking from our students, while giving tax cuts to big business and millionaires.”
“I’m proud to announce that Labor has committed to restoring every dollar of the $17 billion cut from schools by the Liberals.”
