Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has thanked constituents for re-electing him at the Federal Election and has outlined his agenda for the region.
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) declared the final count for the seat of Blair today with Mr Neumann on 55.71 per cent of the two candidate preferred vote.
The result was a 0.5 percent swing to Labor. Mr Neumann won 42,825 of the primary vote, ahead of his nearest rival, the LNP, on 31,797 votes.
Mr Neumann said it was a huge honour to represent his community for a seventh term as the Federal Member for Blair.
“It is an honour to be returned as the Member for Blair, and as part of a re-elected majority Albanese Labor Government,” Mr Neumann said.
“Thank you to the voters of Blair and my hardworking volunteers, and congratulations to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and my parliamentary colleagues, both old and new!
“Thank you for this opportunity to work with you in our community and for you in the Federal Parliament.
“All politics is local. I’ve lived in Ipswich my whole life. It’s a community that’s shaped me - and one I’ll always fight for. Now the work continues.
“I know Blair is one of the fastest growing regions in the country, so we need to be investing in jobs and infrastructure for the future.”
The re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver:
- $200 million towards the Amberley Interchange (on top of $16 million for business cases for the Amberley Intersection, and Ripley Road and Swanbank Road Interchanges on the Cunningham Highway)
- $20 million for Brisbane Valley Highway safety upgrades, bringing the total Federal Government commitment to $40 million
- $5.5 million for a new House of India community and cultural centre
- $5 million for the Ipswich Basketball Stadium extension
- $4.5 million for a new Ripley Rugby League and Sports Centre
- $4.05 million to upgrade Lowood Swimming Pool
- $1.6 million for the Fernvale Sports Park netball court extension
- $1.2 million for the Chuwar Koala and Native Fauna Conservation Park
- $700,000 for YMCA Springfield Central Community Centre upgrades
- A new headspace youth mental health service in Redbank Plains
“I will be pushing the State Government to start work on the Mount Crosby Interchange upgrade, which the Federal Government has provided $138.5 million for. I will also continue to advocate for the State Government to progress the Bremer River Bridge strengthening works. $42.5 million in Federal funding was delivered for the Bremer River Bridge in the 2024 Federal Budget,” Mr Neumann said.
“Cost of living has been a big issue and voters in Blair connected with the Albanese Government’s strong plan to provide relief with tax cuts for every taxpayer, $150 off your energy bill, more affordable healthcare, cheaper childcare, free TAFE and 20 per cent off HECS debts. The Albanese Government’s positive steps to build a better future for Blair and responsible economic management was what resonated with voters.”
