An Albanese Labor Government will work with the Queensland Labor Government to plan the next stage of the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann said the Queensland Government finished work on stage one of this project, widening a three-kilometre section of the Motorway between Granard Road and Oxley Road from four to six lanes, last year.

“Communities along the south-west corridor, including people in Ipswich, the Somerset Region and Karana Downs area, are ready and waiting for next stage of work to begin,” Mr Neumann said.

“To allow works to get underway as soon as possible, an Albanese Labor Government will invest $10m to get planning underway to expand the road to 6 lanes between Blunder Road and the Centenary Motorway.”

Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick said these planning works will look at improved flood resilience, ramp rationalisation and improving connections with other Brisbane Motorways.

“Once planning is finished and construction begins, it is expected that this project will support 500 jobs,” Mr Dick said.

“This is a road that carries over 85,000 vehicles every single day – only an Albanese Labor Government will partner with the Queensland Government to get the next stage of works underway.”

“While the Morrison-Joyce Government prefers to pick fights, only an Albanese Labor Government will work in collaboration to deliver the projects that really matter,” Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Catherine King said.

“We know that commuters in the south-west need this upgrade. Our investment in planning will mean that work can get underway as soon as possible.”
